A recent group of young jobseekers aged between 16-24 years have been working hard at improving their skills to gain their first steps on the employment ladder. They had signed up to Acacia Training & Development’s 9 week traineeship Programme in Torbay which helps people move forward positively into the workplace.

This highly successful programme begins with two-weeks of intensive learning delivered through fun and practical activities by Motiv-8sw. This motivational programme is designed to empower young adults and help them realise their true potential. The group learn skills such as leadership, communication, health and safety, first aid and teamwork. The sessions are delivered through coaching and mentoring techniques by former Royal Marines and they build self-esteem, self-confidence and each individual produces their own set of realistic and achievable goals and action plans to help move them towards a job.

At the end of this initial 10 days the young people hold a presentation of their achievements to invited guests from local businesses. This celebratory occasion allows the young adults to have a chance to show their amazing transformation and progression in such a relatively short period of time.

Jamie Paull, 21 was able to use his newly found confidence and his presentation impressed Hazel Tucker, Partner from Bishop Fleming, Torquay so much he was invited into the firm for an interview, with a chance to carry out some work experience.

Jamie’s successful interview, aptitude tests and work placement have now resulted in a full time job with Bishop Fleming in their pay roll department.

Hazel Tucker from Bishop Fleming said “I was invited by Motiv-8sw to attend the presentation day and was very impressed with all the young people, however Jamie stood out to me and he expressed an interest in pursuing a career within finance.  I encouraged him to explore the opportunities available within Bishop Fleming. He made it through our recruitment process and I am absolutely delighted that he has secured a position within our outsourced payroll service thanks to the support that the Motiv8 and the Acacia Programme has provided him”.
