Momentum Project

Keeping up Momentum

Momentum is an ongoing project in Devon, over the course of 6 weeks, we work with RISE and Learn Devon to help people with complex and multiple barriers and support people to overcome addiction and move them forward into employment opportunities. The clients attend workshops once a week for five weeks, then attend a full week with Motiv-8 to explore hidden talents and unlock their true potential.

Learn Devon, Motiv-8 and RISE deliver meaningful workshops for the first 5 weeks in which the clients learn new skills, techniques and tools that will help in their everyday lives. The workshops vary depending on the client groups as everything is tailored around each individual.

In the final week of the momentum the clients go on a five-day programme with Motiv-8. Which is focused on preparing for the work environment, future planning and honing in on those all important employability and life skills. In these 5 days we cover key elements such as CV writing, Interview techniques, confidence building, team building, timekeeping, communication skills, future planning, goal setting, action planning and discovering how to lead teams and fellow workers.

We have had significant success in this project with an 80% success rate in moving people forward in their lives.

Young people struggling to find work had the opportunity to boost their job prospects thanks to a Rugby World Cup 2015 inspired project set up by Exeter City Council and Exeter and the Heart of Devon, Employability and Skills Board.

This two-week REEP programme usesd sport to inspire 16-24 year olds, giving them new life skills and confidence to help them progress into the work place, an apprenticeship or further training.

Motiv-8sw have run similar initiatives in other parts of the UK and are delighted to bring this programme to the South West.

“This programme was extremely successful in helping young people discover what they want to do with their life and it empowers them to actually turn their thinking into action”

Phil Sampson, Director, Motiv-8sw

The programme saw selected young people engage in a practical and experiential way of learning which uses modern and well proven performance coaching techniques. It helped with self-esteem, self-confidence, motivation, communication and presentation skills, team work, goal setting and action planning and defining future vision and aspirations.

Cllr Rosie Denham, Exeter City Council’s Lead Councillor for Economy and Culture, has said:

“Sport can be a fantastic motivator which is why we’re focusing on supporting young people who have struggled to take that first step on their career ladder, building their confidence, skills and business know how”.

Continuing to develop a fantastic legacy

Following the outstanding success of the REEP (Rugby Empowering Employment Programme), which saw 10 young people take part in a unique 10 day programme to get them work ready as part of the exciting Rugby Work Cup 2015 legacy. We are delighted to announce that this work has enabled us to launch BEEP (Business Empowering Employment Programme), helping us to continue on the great legacy and help more of the most vulnerable young people, find the right pathway into employment.

BEEP is now a registered charity, meaning we are able to enlist the support of fantastic local organisations and fundraisers to deliver the unique Fit For Work programmes. This ensures that more young people are given the best opportunities when it comes to getting onto the right pathways and into great careers.
